Get This Party Started
The place: Rotterdam. The year: 1984. The venue: the “Hermes” fraternity house. A recently formed group made up of students takes to the stage. The crowd goes wild and… Hermes House Band is born.

It was the start of an incredible journey. Early shows were received rapturously and when the band started recording, they became the stars of the Dutch student scene. Not long after that their reputation was sealed as the hottest party-starters on the block. Over the next ten years they toured relentlessly, providing a beautiful soundtrack to the best nights of countless young lives.

Out of the Blue
In 1994, destiny intervened to transform the Hermes House Band from famous live performers to hit makers. It all started when the (independently released) single I Will Survive (Lalala) hit #1 in the Netherlands, and subsequently broke into the charts in many other countries.

Then, a couple years later during the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, the song’s catchy “Lalala” theme became the unofficial anthem for French football fans as ‘Les Bleus’ clinched their famous World Cup victory. As a result the Hermes House Band’s single shot to the top of the French charts and the “la-la-la” chant became forever ingrained in Gallic culture. Then 20 years on, in 2018 after another French World Cup triumph, I Will Survive rose to the top of the French charts once again.

Rockin’ All Over the World
The breakout success of I Will Survive led to the band scoring hits in other European countries. Their remake of John Denver’s Country Roads reached the Top 10 in multiple countries including Germany and the UK, becoming a party classic of its own.

In the following years, the band focused on their international career, releasing singles and albums that become global hits. They collaborated with the likes of DJ Ötzi, Tony Christie, Jürgen Drews and Lou Bega. They even joined forces with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra for a unique fusion of classical music and famous party hits. Thirty years after their formation, Hermes House Band recordings are still riding high on at summer festivals, après-ski parties and stadiums around the world.

And the beat goes on! Today, lead singers Jop Wijlacker and Sally Flissinger are still going strong along with five brilliant musicians. On the stage and in the studio the Hermes House Band are still keeping the party going, because that’s what they do.
